Being a linguist in Dutch from origin, he uses his profession as an alibi to get in touch with pupils more than anything else. In the early 1980s he got acquainted with pupil counselling and from that moment on it never disappeared from his mind and work. Education is about pupils, it is as simple as that! Through his work as chief-editor of "Tijdschrift voor Leerlingbegeleiding" (Magazine for pupil counselling) he learned what emotional awareness can do in the classroom. It seemed as if all the separate elements he had encountered before finally became one entity. The meaning of EQ for Frits is pupil counselling, safety, crime-fighting, but also school parties, school drama, anxiety about meagre development of (especially) fellow teachers. Three visits to England, a series of essays in Tijdschrift voor Leerlingbegeleiding, mainly on Anger Management, several workshops and training-sessions, reading books, even more conversations and of course his daily routine with students at school made him believe that emotional quality time could be the modern explanation of school-atmosphere for many schools. He would very much like to contribute to that. You can reach Frits with EQ-questions and for EQ-information by mail : f.roelofs@chello.nl
Started as a mechanical engineer, he developed some of the first designing-software tools for steel-constructions, but later he started where his heart really was and followed study's at the conservatory in The Hague in composing and teaching music. He than worked as a (workshop-)teacher in pop- & improvised music at several social community centre's, music schools and regular schools. He was involved in training teachers towards project-based education where training in intellectual, emotional & social skills were accomplished using auditive methods in combination with writing, painting, drama, dance and video. After a new study he became an 'interactive multimedia developer'. This EQ-website is one of the first projects that is generated by 'The Virtual Information Organiser'. It's a new softwaretool that Harry is developing...
