Hallo EQ networkers in Europe and all over the world.

This is a message from EQ Europe Education Network ( www.eqee.org )

A healthy body, mental and social emotional health in education.

We know people in Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Scotland and also in other countries who are working in WHO and European trajects of "Education and health in partnership" are doing a very good job.

Health promoting schools who promote body and mental and social emotional (heart brain) health are big part of my work. For me health promotion has 3 aspects of competence: body, mental and social emotional. Healthy behavior is the indicator for this competencies.

Social capital of schools in relation to health will grow when teachers and pupils develop health and care competencies include attitudes and social emotional skills referring to care as "art of living". Education can enable students:
    • To care for themselves and other persons, now and in future: including the safe ways to use the concept of one for oneself and others in one's own surroundings, relations, the school and society.
    • To care for the physical and mental health, and well-being of other persons including the distinction between and management of cultural and gender oriented similarities and differences between people.
    • To increase their experience through the development of practical and social emotional skills related to health and care.
    • To care for a healthy and harmonious (school) community: the knowledge and the management of 'one's own and others' standards and values.
    • To care for the world and for democracy. Explicit attention is devoted to the relationships between human being and nature, and the concept of sustainability as well as the role of a democratic citizen in a multicultural society also evolving in an international context.

After my visits to India I know: In India there is a real need for health promoting school development because there is a very low standard for body, mental and social emotional health in most schools. I know education in The Netherlands very well and I visit some schools in Europe (Norway, UK, Germany, Poland, Spain, Greece) In West and South West Europe health for the body in most schools is relative well organized. In some health promoting schools in Europe are good examples also on the mental and social emotional site of health promoting. But we all know that we have to do a job at the mental and social emotional part of health promoting in education in West Europe (and the Netherlands) to.
In Eastern Europe most of the time health in education is on a low standard colleagues in Romania and Tjecheslowakia told me.

I am interesting in your experience on this subject.
EQ Europe Education like to promote the mental and social emotional aspects of education and health in partnership in Europe and all over the world.
We are interested in the needs for (mental and social emotional) health in education in your school, in your town in your country.

Are you interested in a working conference like this in your country in Europe?
Please tell us and we can take a look how to organize a European action plan for an EU collaboration and exchange program.

    Best regards,
Dhyan Vermeulen and the board of EQ Europe Education.
