From the IHEU-conference (july 2002): Education and worldcitizenship International Humanist Ethical Union will promote a creative and democratic approach to a wide range of issues affecting education. IHEU will focus on visions of education and educational activities at the primary and the secondary schools and at the academic level. Experiences from different countries will be discussed, 'good practices ' demonstrated, problems shared, visions worked out and plans developed for a sustainable collaboration. Theme: What can humanists contribute to education and the development of models for democratic education and worldcitizenship. How can they learn from the experiences of teachers, educators, kids, youngsters and students? How can they collaborate and contribute in the development of models for religious and ethical education that increase knowledge and understanding between people with different believes and worldviews and that are in compliance with international human rights standards . Of course here come's Emotional Intelligence! Introduced by examples of 'good practices' in different countries and by short introductions on the theme, IHEU had 3 workshops at the subject education. This workshops offered plenty of time for exchange, dialogue and discussion, and create opportunities to explore common projects in the field of education. Humanists share with many others the conviction that the promotion of social emotional intelligence and existential, ethical and civic formation is an important aspect of school-education. The workshop-coordinators will therefore invite like-minded-actors in the field of education who are striving for the same goals and are open to seek or support alliances. Interested?
