    Hallo EQ Europe networkers,

This is the follow-up of the India rapport.
The seminar in Chirala 15, 16, 17 January starts this morning of the 15th. In Vivaka school building 200 managers and teachers are waiting for the speeches of Levi Fragell (president of the IHEU, Roy Brown (Vise president and UN representive) and Sonja Eggerinkx (Vise president).
They form the first part of a day long program listening and discussion. Subjects are
humanist approach for a more EQUAL education for all, the quest for freedom and search for true. In the classes of the school you can hear the children reciting a poem. This day every person will speak to the total group.

The first intervention in the seminar Dhyan is asked for is a joyful one. How can we create joyful humanist education in this school? Together we sing and do some exercising with the teachers and after that we have a short dialog with some managers and trainers. Mean questions are the safety in the group. Equal work with men and woman in expressive work forms and how to start up joyful exercises in school.

The second intervention is a difficult one.
How to make the first step to set up a Socratic dialog in circles for a group of 100 teachers out door, no microphone, the only recourses we have are the colour pencils and colour papers Dhyan bring in. We work together with 3 trainers, Dhyan will give the introduction and will people help to construct the groups. After that Usha, Jyotsna and Dhyan guide the
group circle process. Nobody of this people have experience with working in circles or groups.
The first point is to tell them how to do that and why we do this. The subject of dialog is: “What do you like best in your education?
The second problem we have to solve is listening. In the beginning the whole group try to tell the whole group what they like best.
The trainers go from one group to another coaching every group in the rules for dialog.
Make up your own mind first, listen to others, give everyone a possibility to speak also woman (woman do not speak for themselves here, only man do, you have to ask them).
One reporter has to write the arguments. After a while it works, all groups are in discussion, asking questions for: what, where, when, how and why. The EQ learn point here is listening also to woman and men of a lower caste and respect the idea to bring in.

It takes more time than we had planned to give them the possibility to prepare the presentation of the group dialog but it works. We go back in the plenary group and two groups give presentation there conclusions in a forum (one presentator, two others behind a table. The second is a match teacher. His presentation is very clear. A woman comes in with a question, a good one.
This question gives an inspiring dissuasion half in English, half in Tellegu. Men and woman participate in this discussion. After this exercise Dhyan gives a short introduction about the way you can try out this method in the classroom. At the end of the workshop
Bapa Rao tells the group the function he think this group method can provide for good and joyful humanist education.

The steps in this method are the same as the steps in the method of Humanist Ethical Education in the Netherlands:

    The for steps methodology:

    1 recognize
The chosen situation must be brought to life and pupils must recognize it and identify with it.

    2 explore/examine
The pupils explore the situation and examine it from all angles.

    3 choose
The pupils are encouraged to make choices within the situation. The emphasis here is not so much on the final choice but on the development of moral sensitivity and becoming fully aware of values.

    4 evaluate
In this state the pupils look back at what they have done during the lesson. They identify important moments and issues that gave rise to them changing their point of view and/or encouraged them to delve deeper. It also becomes clear at this stage what needs further work and what themes should be examined next.

    Warm regards from India
    Usha, Dhyan and Jyotsna
